Pat Coyle was a member of the Illinois Athletic Directors Association for 20 years, from 1988-2007. During his time at Jersey Community High School, Pat spent 18 years as the school’s athletic director and four years as the student activities director. He served the IADA in several different roles. He was the hospitality chair, the assistant conference co-chair and the conference co-chair. Pat also coached three different sports during his tenure at JCHS. He was an assistant football coach from 1974-1976, the head boys tennis coach from 1974-1990 and the head girls tennis coach from 1991-2007. Because of his commitment to excellence and leadership, Pat was named the IADA Class AA Outstanding Athletic Director of the Year in 2003 and the IADA Class AA Division Athletic Director of the Year in 2007. Pat stated that he is very proud of being named the Outstanding Athletic Director of the Year in two different divisions. He also stated that one of the many highlights of his career was his involvement in the development of the district’s sports complex and new high school. Pat’s former superintendent, Donald Snyders, stated that “Pat provided very positive leadership and was an excellent role model for our coaching staff and sponsors.” Snyders added that “Pat introduced numerous new public relation concepts that enhanced our athletic programs and he developed the evaluation process for our coaches and sponsors.” Mike Brey, assistant principal from Alton, remembers the support Pat offered to his peers. Brey said, “Pat went out of his way to help me as a new athletic director from the time I arrived at Alton, even though we were in two different conferences. He was truly a huge support/mentor to me and many other new athletic directors in the Metro-East area, always going out of his way to help anyone.” Pat Coyle’s dedication and commitment to the athletic programs at Jersey Community High School and his contributions to the IADA paved the way for his selection as a member of the Illinois Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame. |
