|
An IHSA assistant executive director for 11 years and activities director at Morton High School and University High School for five and eight years respectively, Dave Gannaway is awarded membership in the 2010 IADA Hall of Fame. Dave’s IHSA executive responsibilities included overseeing football, softball, wrestling and baseball. Add to that the responsibility of oversight of some 12,500 high school officials, and Dave can be credited with working tirelessly throughout his IHSA tenure. Running the Association’s March Madness Experience wheelchair basketball tournament and building the annual IHSA officials convention into a premier event were further contributions. The label innovator is additional praise given to Dave. Through his leadership, drive and passion, IHSA introduced high school bass fishing as a sanctioned activity with a bass fishing state championship tournament debuting in May 2009—the first of its kind in the country. Other professional endeavors include IADA presidency, publication in Interscholastic Athletic Administration, and numerous presentations at the National Athletic Administrative and IADA conferences. Those and his countless other efforts have been recognized by the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association which named him an administrator of the year. The IADA named him an Outstanding Athletic Director of the Year, and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association recognized Dave with the Illinois State Award of Merit. A colleague spoke highly of Dave in an IHSA release: “Dave is beloved around this state because of his ability to strike the perfect balance between a fun-loving character and one of the finest professionals in the business. Dave has had a direct effect on thousands of students’ and officials’ decisions to get involved with high school sports and activities.” With over 30 years as teacher, coach, administrator and mentor, Dave is truly deserving of induction into the 2010 IADA Hall of Fame. |
