Jim Bloch - New Trier High School, Glenbrook High School
|
Passionate and charismatic are two descriptors for this 2010 IADA Hall of Fame member– Jim Bloch. According to one colleague, calculating Jim’s cumulative impact on Illinois athletics is no easy task, because his contributions are unparalleled. Twenty-six years as an athletic director—eight years at New Trier Township High School and 18 years at Glenbrook North High School—provided countless opportunities for Jim to impact programs and individuals. That same colleague praised him with these words, “Jim exhibited a skill set which was exemplary, melding an exceptional work ethic with an intuitive sense of what his coaches, the student-athletes and their parents needed to be successful members of New Trier’s interscholastic athletic program.” And if a student-athlete’s injury demanded Jim leave a Cubs game, he did. That commitment to individuals has created life-long friendships and immeasurable impact on high school students, who through Jim’s work, experienced life lessons that only athletic involvement can teach. His commitment to his profession has fostered the growth of countless athletic administrators and promoted the field’s prestige. Jim’s board memberships have included service to the North Suburban YMCA and Illinois Special Olympics. His IADA contributions include serving as president and serving on many committees highlighted by original committee membership on both the mentor program and leadership training program. Jim’s continued service as an LTC instructor earns much praise. His passion and integrity make him, according to another colleague, an “all-star instructor,” so it is no surprise that Jim is a featured leadership speaker at workshops and small businesses throughout the state and country. The NIAAA and IADA have recognized Jim’s contributions through numerous awards; however, the best testament to him is from the IADA leadership training program coordinator who said, “Jim Bloch’s life is about service to others, and he has served for numerous other athletic administrators as the finest professional role model there is in our profession.” And for that Jim Bloch is now a member of the IADA 2010 Hall of Fame. |
