Gerald “Chic” Anderson - Palatine High School

Chic was the athletic director at Palatine High School for 19 years (1969-1988). Under his leadership, Palatine High School’s physical education and athletic programs gained recognition in the northwest suburbs and in the state of Illinois for their integrity, competitiveness and school spirit.
During his career, Chic was actively involved in those professional associations dealing with athletics and physical education. He was an active participant for the IAPHERD at the state and national level throughout his career. He received every honor the IAHPERD (Illinois Association for Health Physical Education, Recreation and Dance) had to offer. Those included but are not limited to: Presidents Gavel, Quarter Century Award, Service Award and Presidential Citation to name a few. He served the Illinois High School Association as a member of the GAA advisory board, athletic director advisory board, was a head timer at the boys state track meet for nine years, and ran the IHSA state gymnastic meet for 12 years.
Chic has also received numerous awards in the field of athletic administration. In 1973 he received the Outstanding Service Award from the NFSHSAD, one of six awarded nationwide. In 1979, he was chosen as the Illinois Athletic Directors Association Outstanding Athletic Director of the Year. In 1982, he was chosen as the National High School Coaches Association Athletic Director of the Year.
Upon his retirement in 1988, the Palatine High School football and soccer Stadium was renamed the “Chic Anderson Stadium.”
