Georgre Egofske - Rich South High School

George served as an athletic administrator for over 28 years, 1958-1972 at Rich High School and 1972-1994 at Rich South High School. His service to the field of athletics as an administrator, coach and teacher has been recognized across the state. George’s passion for athletics and the important role he felt it played in young people’s lives was evident during any conversation with his colleagues.
During his career he served as head football coach, head wrestling coach, head baseball coach, as well as being an assistant in track. His career started in 1956 at Bloomington Central Catholic High School. He was at Central for two years until the Rich School District became his home until his retirement in 1994.
While at Rich and Rich South he established numerous tournaments that have been recognized as the best in their sport over the years. Some of those tournaments include the Rocket Wrestling Tournament at Rich High School, The Hercules and Taurus the Bull Wrestling Tournaments at Rich South, along with the Big Dipper Basketball Tournament.
In 1989, he received the NIAAA State Award of Merit. He has been inducted into the Illinois Football Coaches Hall of Fame as well as the Illinois State University Hall of Fame. In 1987 he received the special commendation award from the IADA for his dedication and service to his athletic director colleagues.
His service to the Illinois Athletic Directors Association included being program chairman and assistant program chairman. He served as a speaker at three state conferences as well as a speaking engagement at one national conference. However, he will be most remembered for establishing the awards format that is used today for honoring the Class A & AA outstanding athletic directors of the year. George served as the IADA awards chairperson for nine years.
