Jim Unrath - United Township High School

Jim served as athletic director at United Township High School for 18 years. Jim has always been a very active member whether in school, in his community, or with his church. He gives his all and it shows with the work he leaves behind.
His service to the IADA has been exemplary as he served as division liaison, IADA executive board member, secretary, president, hospitality chairman - three times, Hall of Fame Committee member, and Mentoring Developing Committee member. Jim, along with fellow inductee Doug Smith, came up with the idea for the IADA Hall of Fame Program during their tenure together on the board. His service to the IHSA includes serving on the Wrestling and Athletic Advisory Boards. He served as the IADA liaison to the IHSA Board of Directors as well being on the All-State Academic Selection Committee for three years and the Sportsmanship Ad Hoc Committee. He ran the state wrestling tournament for three years. At the local level he was on the Quad Cities Sports Commission for eight years and served as the East Moline Youth Exchange Officer for 11 years. He founded a Booster Club that raised over one million dollars for all extracurricular activities.
Principal Leo Johnson states, “He has been a major influence in my life, and I have watched him do the same for many coaches of all sports and activities.”
Some of Jim’s numerous awards include Outstanding Athletic Director of the Year in 1991 and the NIAAA State Award of Merit in 1995. Jim has been very involved at the national level, serving on committees and receiving his CAA in the inaugural group. He has also presented at several National Conventions.
The Illinois Athletic Directors Association is proud to have Jim Unrath as a member of the Illinois Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame.

The IADA Board would like to thank you for all that you do for the student athletes of your schools.  We all know the time and effort we put into our positions.  We come from small schools, large schools, middle and high schools; but no matter what, we all share in a common goal, and that is to provide the best educationally based athletic program for our students.
